Mouse Guard Vol 1 Fall 1152 HC New Printing,3/14/2011 1:35:55 PM

So a lot of us grew up with Brian Jacques' "Redwall" series, well "Mouse Guard" is very similar, just better. The tone is a little more serious, and the overall world is more interesting than that of "Redwall". Author/Artist David Peterson tells an exciting story, and the art is very pretty as well. Fall 1152 is where you want to start, but Winter is the better story so far.
   Mouse Guard Vol 2 Winter 1152 HC,3/14/2011 1:45:11 PM

So "Mouse Guard: Winter 1152" is an excellent follow up to the very good Fall 1152. We get a better idea as to what some of the threats these mice encounter in this world, for example the rather epic encounter with the owl, or the discovery of the old abandoned weasel stronghold, that may not be so abandoned. We also get better acquainted with our main characters, in the first book it was a little tough to tell them a part but, in this second book they are starting to distinguish themselves as individuals. Once again the art does not disappoint and just makes the read even more enjoyable. I highly look forward to following this series as it continues.
Unwritten Vol 1 Tommy Taylor And The Bogus Identity TP,4/10/2011 10:50:05 PM

Ok, so I was drawn to "The Unwritten" by the covers, they are always very pretty and interesting. I really didn't know much about the story except that it had some Harry Potter-esque book series in it. I wasn't sure how I like this book at first, it is very interesting, but hard to get a good feeling for at first. It may be that because the main character Tom is kind of a Jerk, and he isn't easy to root for, it may be that I don't get all the literary references that seem to have a large part in this series, or maybe I am just dumb. Anyway, after finishing the last chapter I decided I really like it, something about the final chapter about Rudyard Kipling was really good, and got me hooked, and I picked up volume 2 right away, which I like better than 1. Definitely give "The Unwritten" a shot, but I fear it may not be for everyone
Chew Vol 1 Tasters Choice TP,4/10/2011 11:06:19 PM

So you need to buy this book now! "Chew" in my opinion is the best comic book being written right now, and definitely ranks up pretty high on my list of all time favorite reads. "Chew" is absolutely hilarious, you have to read everything, go out of your way to check out all the little notes, billboards, newspaper headline, etc. they are some of the funniest things in this already greatly humorous book. The high comedic level is not all that makes "Chew" great, it boasts at fantastic story filled with zany characters. For those of you that don't this series has recently been picked up by Showtime to be a new TV show too, so start reading now before this show comes out.
Green Lantern Willworld HC,4/10/2011 11:16:56 PM

This book is pretty much like Hal Jordan in wonderland. It is a fun story, that is a more than a little strange. It is a unique take on Green Lantern or pretty much any super hero. I enjoyed reading this story, but it didn't really stick with me, and I would have probably liked it more had I been on a drug trip. The art is very beautiful and was the reason I purchased this title to begin with (also that I am a huge GL fan). So if you like abnormal super hero stories with some uniquely pretty art, check our Will World, if you prefer a straight forward super hero title that is good versus evil, than Will World may not be for you.
Justice League International Vol 1 TP,4/16/2011 10:01:34 PM

This book is very entertaining. The Guy Gardner vs. Batman bits are very funny. The whole book is more of a comedy than anything. My only problem with the book is that is a very dated, the art is boring and old, and can make it annoying to read, when there are so many newer options with prettier art. I look forward to reading the following books in this series, but I have to read something more modern first.
   Brightest Day Vol 1 HC,5/8/2011 4:45:20 PM

The year long follow up to "Blackest Night" is now collected, which makes these type of series (in my opinion) are much easier to read collected. "Brightest Day" is a very enjoyable read with nice art. It has some flaws, while the Aquaman story is fantastic and has ignited an interest in the character I have never had before, the Hawkman and girl story is boring, and really the weakest part of this book. Overall a very good read for any fan of the DC universe, and I cant wait to read volumes 2 and 3
Elephantmen Vol 2 Fatal Diseases TP,5/8/2011 4:51:38 PM

Elephantmen is a very interesting story, it takes place in a bleak future, where approximately 15,000 "Elephantmen" the genetically engineered former weapons of an old war are introduced into human society. While the first book really served to introduce you to the characters, and give you some of the background on the world they live in, the second starts to develop a more coherent story arc. There is still a lot of jumping around, and at times it can be a little confusing, but it seems to all tie together in the end. We also learn more about the war the Elephantmen were involved in this time around, which I hope we get to see more of as the series moves forward.
Thor By J Michael Straczynski Vol 1 TP,5/8/2011 5:00:11 PM

I have never really read Thor before, with the release of the movie I wanted to give the character a shot. My wife who is a bog Thor fan recommenced the JMS run. I couldnt put it down it was very good. A good place for new Thor readers to start, this story is Thor reestablishing Asgard in Oklahoma. If you just saw the movie and want to read some Thor this is a very good place to start, but buy book 2 and 3 as well, because you will regret it if you dont
Unwritten Vol 2 Inside Man TP,5/8/2011 5:01:40 PM

Unwritten Vol 3 Dead Mans Knock TP,5/8/2011 5:03:35 PM

The story of Tom Taylor continues, and keeps getting better. The highlight of this book, is the choose your own adventure chapter that explores Lizzies past.
   Brightest Day Vol 2 HC,5/10/2011 7:23:29 PM

The second volume of this bi-weekly series jumps around less, but it definitely feels like the middle part of a story, as not much really happens. It is still good, and the Aquaman story is the one that is most interesting, but there are still the same slow spots. I am eagerly awaiting volume 3 so I can finish this story line, I may have to dig up the back issues.
Sixth Gun Vol 1 Cold Dead Fingers TP,7/11/2011 1:11:17 AM

This is a great western comic, at first I was worried the supernatural elements were going to turn me off this series, but they work together very well, and this has quickly become one of my favorite ongoing series
   Sixth Gun Vol 2 TP,7/11/2011 1:12:40 AM

Not quite as good as the first trade, but still very good, and leaves you wanting more, luckily issue 12 came out right after this trade
Chew Vol 2 International Flavor TP,7/11/2011 1:17:28 AM

Best series ever!!! You really should be reading this
Chew Vol 3 Just Desserts TP,7/11/2011 1:19:23 AM

Chew is my favorite series, ever, period. It is fantastic, if I could only read one comic for the rest of my life it would be this series. Never has a comic made me laugh out loud as much as Chew. Please if you have not read this series buy the first trade, you will not be disappointed.
   Detective Comics #881,8/19/2011 11:55:27 PM

Scott Snyders run on Detective is the best Batman story I have read since "The Dark Knight Returns"
   WE3 Deluxe Edition HC,8/25/2011 12:16:41 AM

The only thing I can say I didnt like about "WE3" is that it was too short. I really like this book, and I after I had finished I wanted more. The story reminded me of a much more violent, and just a significantly better version of "Homeward Bound". As usual the combo of Mrrison and Quitely put together an excellent read.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vol 5 #1 1st Ptg Regular Cover B,8/25/2011 12:20:54 AM

I grew up with the turtles, so I was excited to see this book on the shelf. Sadly besides the nostalgia factor it doesnt have a lot going for it. For the most part this is an origin story, with a few cameos to make the fan base giddy, but overall it is just boring. There is some potential though, it could develop into an interesting book, so lets keep our fingers crossed.
   Animal Man Vol 2 #1 1st Ptg,9/8/2011 7:52:43 PM

This was my first time reading anything by Jeff Lemire, I have heard good things about Sweet Tooth but never have read it, so I was willing to give Animal Man a shot due to Lemires reputation, it was great. I really enjoyed everything about this book, from page one I was hooked, even when he was just hanging out with his family I could tell this had the makings of something special. The one thing I wasnt sure about was the art, but as I read it the art really grew on me, and really shines during the dream sequence towards the end. As of right now Animal Man is now the top book I am looking forward to from DC comics, and I cant wait for issue #2. BUY THIS BOOK!!!
Seven Soldiers Of Victory Vol 1 HC,11/12/2011 12:57:07 AM

Grant Morrison succeeds at taking a group of c and d list characters, and puts them together to make an incredible story. While the chapters of certain characters are more interesting than others, overall everything is good. Subway pirates are one of the greatest things ever created in the comic book industry.
   Spaceman (DC/Vertigo) #1,11/12/2011 1:02:38 AM

The more I think about this issue the more I like it. The language can be difficult to follow at times, since it is all in a future slang, but that just adds to the overall greatness of this issue. I am very excited for what will come in this series.
   Animal Man Vol 2 #2 1st Ptg,11/12/2011 1:08:39 AM

After an amazing first issue I was eagerly awaiting "Animal Man #2", it did not disappoint. If you are reading only one comic right now, you should make it this one.
   Animal Man Vol 2 #3,11/12/2011 1:10:17 AM

This is the best book in DCs new 52, and the best superhero book being made right now, period.
   Demon Knights #1 1st Ptg,11/12/2011 1:12:35 AM

This title kind of flies under the radar, but it really is one of the more fun books being published right now. Not really a traditional title, since it is more of a fantasy than a superhero book, but I think that is why it is so enjoyable.
   Pax Romana TP,6/1/2012 4:22:07 PM

I have yet read everything by Hickman, but from what I have read this is my favorite. It is such an interesting concept, and he really pulls it off well. Hickman may be the best Sci-Fi comics writer at the moment. Most people think Nightly New is his best work but I prefer Pax Romana.
