   Aquaman Vol 5 #1 1st Ptg,12/29/2011 2:10:43 AM

Heavily ridiculed and generally the punchline of many jokes, Aquaman was never all that popular. Never a fan myself I took part in the occasional joke and laughed with others. With The New 52 on scene issue #1 starts by acknowledging this and owning it. Rather than throw a punch at every deserving person, both good and bad, mocking his very presence, he takes it in stride proceeding to demonstrate in an artistically beautiful level of awesome I didn't expect to see even after hearing all the hype before its release. This is an Aquaman I can stand by. Johns writing for the first issue is good and made all the better thanks to the artwork done by Reis and Prado. In short, itís, good, funny, he's finally (?) cool, the artwork is amazing, and I can't wait to read the next issue. A must buy!
