In the future, an apocalypse all but destroys the world, throwing Japan into a pre-technological desert wasteland where fierce kings use murder and destruction to keep the terrified peasantry in line! When Tatara, the prophesized "Child of Destiny" is born, his twin sister Sarasa is witness to the seeds of hope also born in the people of her town and the surrounding country. But the Red King will not stand for the sedition of this "Child of Destiny," and he ruthlessly murders Tatara before the horrified eyes of the town. Now the only thing that will keep the townsfolk from being slaughtered as well is if Sarasa can pretend to be her brother, and lead the people of her village to safer ground. But how long can Sarasa keep up the pretense of being savior of the world?
