This third volume contains two self-contained tales, one of Japan's distant feudal past (320-350 A.D.), the other in the world's far-flung future (2577 A.D.). In "Yamato," Tezuka weaves a bloody Shakespearean morality play about one king's vanity - the construction of an extravagant imperial tomb and his attempt to remove his rival, Takeru of Kumaso, by sending his son, Oguna, to assassinate him. In "Space," Orion, a sub-light speed rocket heading towards earth crashes into a meteorite. The ship becomes unable to fly and four people manage to escape, including Dr. Saruta (from A Tale of the Future) and Nana. However, the pods only have enough food for half a year and enough air for a year and a half!
