Songs For The New American Depression Vol 3 TP

Description

"There is an allure to early American folk and blues music. You may not know it, but you have listened to it your entire life. Secret lines and hidden words woven into contemporary songs, revealing themselves to the listener only if they were able to hear it. A song within a song.

What is really enjoyable about this type of music and why it still exists today is that the music and lyrics are so open-ended that they can mean anything that the listener wants them to mean. The murderous villain represents the destruction of social values or the fear of random death all people face. Or he could just be a murderous villain, nothing more, nothing less. Music as a democracy.

The ability to create a work of art that contains this open-endedness, this freedom to let the listener interpret the songs anyway they want, is an elusive foe. Success is objective. Failure is inevitable. Like these songs that are recast in comicbook format, success or failure depends not only on the ability of the artist to speak in a specific, yet universal language; it also depends on how much time the reader is willing to invest to learn that language. Good luck."
