Maggie Chascarrillo is a young Mexican-American woman whose story begins in the early 1980s California rock scene, just as the underground punk explosion has begun its spirited and clamorous assault on the sclerotic corporate stadium rock establishment. Teh teenaged Maggie finds herself drawn to the anarchy, energy, and idealism of the hardcore punk scene, where she befriends Hopey Glass, a feisty, anti-authoritarian punkette. Hopey is a constant if troublesome presence in Maggie's life, a paradoxical combination of iron convictions and mercurial temperament.
